Well established Manufacturer seeks Senior Technical Manager-Environmental Health & Safety (EH+S)
The successful candidate will be accountable for developing, implementing and monitoring environmental and safety programs which ensure that EHS protection goals and regulatory requirements are met, while maximizing the integration of those programs with profitable business strategy. Programs cover regulatory topics such as TSCA, SARA, RCRA, OSHA, CWA, CAA, etc. to ensure that organization remains in compliance at all facilities and to promote continual improvement in performance.
More specifically, the Senior Technical Manager-Environmental Health & Safety:
Plans and implements all EHS programs to ensure full compliance with corporate policies and procedures and applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations.
Performs audits of facility operations to identify potential hazards and to determine compliance with legal and corporate requirements. Develops action plans on the basis of audit results and provides specific guidelines for corrective actions. Follow-up on completion of corrective actions is provided through technical and administrative counsel.
Develops, designs and implements training programs sufficient to ensure that environmental, health & safety requirements are understood and implemented effectively.
Maintains extensive knowledge of environmental, health & safety legislation and regulations applicable to the facility operations and works closely with legal staff and outside counsel to ensure accurate interpretation of those requirements. He/she provides summaries and guidelines to the facilities concerning new legislation and advises them of new requirements in a timely manner. Specific federal legislation presently impacting this area of responsibility includes, but is not limited to, the Clean Water Act, The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, and the Comprehensive Environmental Responsibility and Cleanup Act (Superfund).
Coordinates and participates in key negotiations with regulatory agencies and other entities (i.e., insurance companies, etc.)
Implements programs to reduce safety incidents, using behavior-based safety principles, among other approaches, at locations.
Monitors workplace chemical exposures through the use of industrial hygiene monitoring and recommends process improvements to reduce risks and workplace hazards.
Develops, implements, and manages the key elements of the Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) at locations where these programs are required.
Develops, implements, and manages the key elements of ISO 14001, document control management, and audits.
Works on other duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Occupational/Industrial Hygiene or Safety, along with 7+ years of progressively responsible environmental-safety experience in a manufacturing, plant or corporate setting. Proven experience in process safety management and/or behavioral safety management is desired. Certification as a professional engineer, (i.e. CIH, CSP, or related.) This position is very visible and promotable. No relocation assistance is available for this positions.
